Tempeh Goodness was born from lived experience — not just admiration for tempeh, but a lifetime shaped by it.

We grew up eating tempeh in Indonesia, the home of tempeh, where it isn’t a trend or a specialty food, but a cheap, often overlooked everyday staple. It’s cooked simply at home, bought fresh from local makers, and woven into daily meals across generations. That deep cultural connection is the foundation of everything we do.

Now rooted in Guelph, Ontario, we carry that heritage forward with care and intention. Tempeh Goodness is a family-run food business dedicated to crafting fresh, whole-food tempeh that honours Indonesian tradition while responding thoughtfully to a Canadian context. Our approach isn’t about reinventing tempeh — it’s about respecting it.

We use time-honoured, artisanal fermentation methods passed down through generations of Indonesian tempeh makers. Each batch is cooked, inoculated, and fermented with patience, allowing the mycelium to fully bind the beans into a firm, sliceable block with a clean, nutty flavour. Our tempeh is prepared and hand-packed in small batches, so it reaches your kitchen at its best.

Tempeh Goodness is built on the belief that fermentation is not processing — it’s transformation. Our tempeh is made from whole ingredients and fermented slowly. We craft both soy and soy-free tempeh, exploring Canadian-grown pulses and grains while staying true to make tempeh more accessible to a wider range of eaters.

Versatility has always been central to tempeh’s role in Indonesian cooking, and it remains so here. Our tempeh is designed for everyday meals — sliced, crumbled, grilled, baked, or simmered — absorbing flavour beautifully while holding its structure. Each variety reflects the natural qualities of the beans themselves, offering different textures and possibilities — inviting you to experiment and make it your own.

At its core, Tempeh Goodness is about continuity. It’s about bringing a food we know deeply — one we grew up eating — into new kitchens without losing its soul. By grounding our work in culture, community, and craftsmanship, we aim to make tempeh feel not unfamiliar or niche, but simply what it has always been: nourishing, versatile, and meant to be shared every day.
